Pep Guardiola has again tipped Phil Foden for a big future and has admitted he wouldn’t even sell the Manchester City youngster for ‘500 million euros’.

Guardiola has been criticised in the past for not playing Foden as much as perhaps City supporters would like.

But, in the latest serialisation of the new book ‘Pep’s City: The Making of a Superteam’, the City boss says he will place his faith in him once David Silva departs in the summer.

In an extract published by The Sun, he says: ‘We didn’t give Foden a new contract by accident.

‘He is the only player that can’t be sold under any circumstances — the only one. Not even for 500m euros.

‘Phil’s going nowhere — Phil is City. We won’t be signing anyone else for that position.

‘When David Silva leaves, we know exactly who our new magician will be.’

Guardiola also believes there is a special edge to Foden because the 19-year-old grew up through City’s academy.

Others have, indeed, left before namely Jadon Sancho and Brahim Diaz but Guardiola is certain Foden sees his future at the Etihad. He also defended the way he has utilised the young midfielder in his side.

‘He’s grown up with us. He’s one of us and he’s going to be brilliant — one of the Premier League’s best.

‘One thing is clear, Foden has a place in City’s first team.

‘I’d be interested to see if a different manager would have given him his chance to develop, or loaned him out.

‘I don’t like leaving him out of certain games but must think of the whole squad. Phil understands that.’
